An argument between a passenger and a flight attendant became a physical altercation. A witness captured video of a passenger punching a Delta flight attendant on a plane at Miami International Airport, NBC Miami reported. Footage was captured Monday evening (October 19) on a flight heading to Atlanta. The video didn't show how the argument started, it did show the passenger, mask down to her chin, punching the flight attendant in the face.
Lauryn England, the witness who shot the video, claims the flight attendant never pushed the woman. "In the video, when you begin to see her saying, ‘don't touch me, don't touch me,’ and that's when she punched her in the face. And so we were all like, oh my God, I can't believe this is happening on a flight," England told NBC Miami. Witnesses claim the fight started because the passenger's boyfriend refused to put on his seatbelt. The flight attendant then asked them to leave the plane. Passengers eventually intervened in the fight, according to NBC Miami. It's unclear what happened after the recording stopped.
“There is nothing more important than the safety of our people and customers. That’s why two customers who did not comply with crew safety instructions were asked to deplane Flight 1997 yesterday evening," Delta Air Lines spokesperson Morgan Durrant said. "We do not tolerate violence of any kind and this situation is currently under investigation. We apologize to customers for the flight delay this caused.”
