Large-scale renderings have been released of what a new Phoenix Atari Hotel concept would look like, putting the project one step closer to becoming a reality.

Developers licensed the Atari name and have planned to develop multiple hotels and entertainment venues based on video games. These hotels and venues are planned to pop up all across the country, but will begin in Phoenix and Las Vegas.

The Atari Hotels would have a retro style complete with lots of video games.

Shelly Murphy, developer and CEO, told 12 News that the global pandemic didn't hinder the gaming industry. She said, "The gaming world didn't slow down, not one single bit during COVID. If anything, it shot up."

Murphy believes the new hotel concepts will be a hit. "They're embracing the nostalgia," she said. "They're embracing these nostalgic brands."

There is currently no location chosen for Arizona yet. Developers were considering a spot downtown, but realized they would need more room for the massive entertainment complex that will house retro-style gaming arcades, pop-culture-themed bars and restaurants, an esports complex, a multi-purpose gaming arena, and immersive entertainment.

Developers are hoping that a location for the Phoenix hotel will be chosen at the beginning of 2021. The hotel would be completed approximately two years after that, according to Murphy.

Murphy stated, "We are so excited about this project. It is 100% going to happen."
