Local authorities in East Tennessee arrested a man in relation to a recent theft through unique findings at the scene of the crime.

The Anderson County Sheriff's confirmed the arrest of Hugh John Seeber, 50, after finding his finger at the scene of the crime, WBIR reports. Seeber was charged with felony theft of property after reportedly stealing a log splitter last week.

Authorities said the victim noticed tools and other items at the end of their driveway on Batley Road, which included cell phones and the suspect's severed finger, at around 9:00 a.m. last Thursday. The sheriff's office then called local hospitals to see if anyone had been admitted for a missing finger.

The sheriff's office was told Seeber had been dropped off at Methodist Medical Center Emergency Room for a missing finger and was later transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment, the department confirmed to WBIR.

Seeber was interviewed by a detective and later charged, the department confirmed.

“I am very proud of the work our guys did today," Anderson County sheriff Russell Barker said. "Mr. Seeber’s finger pointed us in the right direction which led to him being charged."

The sheriff's office confirmed Seeber underwent surgery for the severed finger prior to Thursday evening.
