Daniella Levine Cava declared victory over her opponent Esteban "Steve" Bovo in the race for Miami-Dade mayor on Tuesday night (November 3).

Bovo conceded the race as 842 out of 866 precincts had reported that Levine Cava had about 54% of the vote, according to WLRN.

Levine Cava will be the first woman to serve as mayor for the county. She will also be the first non-Latino mayor since Stephen P. Clark in 1993.

The race for mayor in Florida's most populous county was one that reflected the bipartisan tension of the presidential race. Although the race was technically nonpartisan, Levine Cava aligned herself with the Democratic party while Bovo represented the views of more conservative politicians.

Despite Miami-Dade being known as a Democratic stronghold, Levine Cava was the first registered Democrat to advance to a run-off election for mayor in over a decade.

Levine Cava accepted her victory with a speech during an election night watch party in Wynwood.

"I'm honored to stand before you as the first female mayor of Miami-Dade County," she said to supporters. "This county does believe in compassionate leadership and we can be a community that takes care of all of its residents."
