A community in Lubbock, Texas helped out in a big way when a farmer died from COVID-19 in October.

Layne Adams was just 49 years old when he passed away before he ever had the chance to harvest his cotton crops.

Local farmers and farmers from neighboring towns came to help.

CBS DFW reported that there were about 75 people who showed up with 20 machines to work on harvesting the more than 1,400 acres of crops.

Adams' daughter, Haileigh Muehlstein, expressed her gratitude for the volunteers. She said, "I don’t think we could feel more blessed. I mean, nobody wants to be in this situation. But we just feel so blessed to have such a community of people that surround us."

Adam's wife, Dawn, stated that Layne was the second family member to pass away due to complications from coronavirus.

Adam's mother died on a Monday, and he died exactly one week later. "It was so sudden," she said.

The harvesting would have taken Adams weeks. With donations of fuel and supplies, it took the volunteers only about a day.

One of the volunteer farmers said that the community is like a brotherhood.
