Stormy or severe weather usually leads to downed trees, and Tropical Storm Eta is no different. Winds from Eta caused trees to damage structures throughout South Florida.

Sunday night (November 8), Mae Frierson was having dinner with her 9-year-old grandson until a tree crashed into her apartment along Northwest 4th Court near 69th Street, according to Local 10. A ceiling fan fell within inches of the boy.

“It sounded like a car ran into something,” Frierson said. "I ran to the kitchen and his mom ran out screaming, ‘Get him. Get him.’" The website reported that the tree snapped in half and plummeted through the roof of the multi-unit apartment building.

“Our crews cut some of the branches away, which allowed for the family to safely evacuate,” Captain Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue said. No one was hurt in the incident, but seven people have been displaced in the incident.

“Never underestimate any kind of storm especially when you have strong winds, the rains and a lot of flooding,” Carroll said.

In a Key Largo neighborhood, Eta didn't stop some neighbors from helping an injured man and his dog after a tree fell on a Florida Keys home.

Local 10 reported that strong winds from Eta ripped a tree from the ground and crushed a home in Key Largo. After the loud noise rang through the neighborhood, Alex Lubja and other neighbors rushed outside their homes. He saw an injured man crawling out from the ruined house.

“When he climbed out he was just kind of like bleeding from his head and stuff,” Lubja said. While the man got assistance from Lubja and the neighbors, others searched the area and saved the man's Labrador Retriever. No word on the man or the dog's condition at this time.
