Jeopardy! host and TV legend Alex Trebek passed away over the weekend at the age of 80 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Fans and contestants alike took to social media to express their admiration and thanks for his decades of entertainment.

One of the contestants thinking back on their time competing was a local teenager who appeared on the show last year. Charlotte's Teagan O'Sullivan, who was a student at Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, was on an episode of Jeopardy! Teen Tournament in 2019.

"Probably my most cherished memory is I remember when the tournament wrapped, he kind of said a message to the audience and all the kids and he had to turn around because he was crying because he just loved doing the teen tournament so much," O'Sullivan told WCNC. "He loved meeting the young people — and it was a different experience and he said it was one of his favorite parts of Jeopardy!"

Trebek announced last year that he had stage four pancreatic cancer. The show confirmed his passing on Sunday in a tweet.

"Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends."

Trebek hosted the iconic quiz show for more than 35 years, even setting a Guinness World Record for most games show episodes hosted. The beloved host ended up hosting over 8,200 episodes of Jeopardy!

The show summed it up perfectly with a simple message: "Thank you, Alex."
