"Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" Celebrate the Switch to Sony HD with Alex Trebek, Vanna White and Pat Sajak

From one beloved game show host to another, Pat Sajak has paid tribute to Alex Trebek after his passing on Sunday (November 8). Trebek passed away after a nearly two year long battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 80-years-old.

“Alex Trebek’s courage, grace and strength inspired millions and awed those of us who knew him,” Sajak, who hosts Wheel of Fortune, wrote on Twitter. “A tremendous loss for his family, friends, co-workers and countless viewers. I was honored to be a friend and a part of his professional family for all these years. A very sad day.”

Sajak's Wheel of Fortune partner, Vanna White, also honored Trebek with a moving social media tribute. Alongside a slideshow of photos of Trebek, White wrote: "I will cherish the many memories I have shared with Alex Trebek that date back well before either of our careers took off. I will always be in awe of the way he faced the battle he fought so valiantly, and I’m devastated to lose my longtime friend. My heart is with his family, friends, co-workers and fans. There will never be another Alex Trebek and he will truly be missed."

News of Trebek's passing was shared on the official Jeopardy! Twitter account. “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex,” the statement read.

Trebek hosted the popular game show since 1984. He taped his last show on October 29. The final episode of Jeopardy! hosted by Trebek will air air on Christmas Day (December 25).
