The United States reached another grim milestone as the number of coronavirus cases in the country topped ten million. The U.S. is the first country to surpass ten million cases. India ranks second with over eight million, and Brazil has more than 5.6 million cases. The U.S. has been seeing a record number of daily cases in November, with multiple days of more than 100,000 new cases confirmed.
The seven-day moving average of new cases has doubled from a month ago and now stands at more than 110,000. The virus has killed over 237,000 Americans since the start of the global pandemic.
Texas leads the nation in cases, accounting for more than ten percent of the total cases, and is the only state with more than one million people who have tested positive. California is second, with 977,865 cases.
As the number of cases continues to rise, hospitals across the nation are struggling to deal with the influx of new patients. That has forced some states and counties to reinstate lockdown measures to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Health experts are warning the pandemic is only going to get worse in the coming months as the cold weather forces more people to gather indoors, and the expected increase in holiday travel.
