As Louisianans prepare for another potential tropical storm, others are still recovering from the multiple hurricanes that have hit the Gulf Coast this year. One family in Harvey recently got power back after Hurricane Zeta when they were dealt another blow — a house fire.

This year has been difficult for so many, including Tiffany Homles-Washington and John Washington. On top of a pandemic that is ravaging families across the world, they have endured the most active hurricane season in history. When Zeta knocked their power out, they were anxiously waiting to get the call they could return their Harvey home. They never expected to hear their house was on fire.

"You never anticipate something like this happening, and we've already been through so much this year," said Tiffany. "He had COIVD. My dad passed away due to complications to COVID, and then here we go again."

A fire investigator said the fire was caused by a power surge when the electricity was restored, WDSU reports. Thankfully no one was in the house at the time. Tiffany said she was supposed to be at home when the fire broke out but decided to stay at work so she didn't have to be alone in the dark. Had she been at home, the results could have been far more devastating.

Tiffany's brother Kenneth Holmes created a GoFundMe page to help his sister and her husband start rebuilding their lives after losing everything. As of November 10, it has raised nearly $3,000.
