As COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Jefferson County, the union representing Jefferson County teachers is urging that the district switch to remote learning for the entire student body.

"The time has come for our district to pivot towards safety as community spread of COVID-19 has passed the point in which it is safe for our students and staff to remain in person," said Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA) president Brooke Williams in a statement according to CBS 4.

Many other neighboring counties have shifted completely or mostly to remote learning. Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, Boulder Valley Schools, and Cherry Creek Schools are all using a remote learning model.

The JCEA is urging Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education to shift to a fully remote learning model for all grade levels, asynchronous learning days on Fridays for teacher planning days, a clear cut threshold for returning safely to in-person learning, and an exception for Warren Tech High School, according to CBS 4.

Jeffco Public Schools discussed changes to their restart plan that could possibly shift middle and high schoolers to remote instruction. These proposed changes would take effect starting Monday, November 16 and last for three weeks. Elementary schools would switch to four days of in-person instruction.

As of Wednesday, CDPHE reports that Jefferson County is currently High Risk and is at Level Orange on their dial system.
