Texas COVID-19 cases have hit a new high as the state crosses a monstrous, grim milestone.

The state has now recorded over one million cases of COVID-19, which is the only state to do so. According to the Johns Hopkins website, the state recorded 1,010,364 cases on Wednesday.

In addition, the state has seen 19,337 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in early March.

On Tuesday, the state hit a new daily record with 10,865 cases in just one day.

There are currently over 132,000 active cases across the state with over 6,100 active hospitalizations, according to KXAN.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there were 94 deaths on Tuesday.

El Paso has seen a recent surge of cases. 1,292 cases were reported in El Paso County on Tuesday with nine additional deaths.

Officials haven't pinpointed a single cause for the surge, but the El Paso mayor has stated that "37 percent of out positives were from visiting large big-box stores," while others were from restaurants, travel to and from Mexico, parties, gyms, and large gatherings.

Most of the cases across the state were those with mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up within just a couple of weeks.
