Firefighters Called To Denzel Washington's Mansion After Smoke Scare

Denzel Washington is “OK and safe” after firefighters responded to a fire and smoke scare at his home.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the actor’s mansion on Beverly Park Circle in the Beverly Crest district shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday night (November 11) due to reports of smoke coming from the second floor of his property.

According to various news outlets, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the 65-year-old’s house, which involved climbing onto the roof and searching the walls with thermal image cameras to locate any possible concealed flames. Thankfully, there was no presence of any active flames — the smoke detected, as it turns out, was coming from a furnace that had recently been serviced.

Though it’s unclear if Washington or his loved ones were at the mansion at the time of the apparent fire, a rep for the star confirmed that he and his family are “OK and safe.”

"Firefighters thoroughly searched the 28,887 square-foot four-story premises (three floors above ground) with thermal imaging cameras to confirm there were no concealed flames related to the smoke they noted on the second floor upon their arrival," a LAFD rep said in a statement.

"The source of that smoke was determined to be one of several furnaces in the home that was recently serviced, and has now been taken safely off-line,” they continued. “There were no injuries, and all occupants have been allowed to return inside the residence. Firefighters have departed the scene."
