Arizona is the home of many towns with unique names.

Seemingly everyone knows the names of popular cities such as Phoenix, Flagstaff, or Tucson. There are definitely some smaller places, however, that some have never heard of and might not even believe exist.

Here are five Arizona towns with weird names:

Why

The town of Why sits in Southern Arizona and has a minuscule population of just 116. This name definitely gives passersby a laugh and may definitely leave them wondering "why?" The unique name of the town is derived fro the highway intersection that was once shaped like a Y.

Santa Claus

With the holiday season just around the corner, children are longing to see Santa and tell them their Christmas wishes. They won't be able to do it in this town, however. The town was originally meant to be a Christmas-themed resort, but was abandoned in 1995.

Top-of-the-World

That's right, hyphens and all! This town, located in Pinal County, doesn't have a super high elevation, so the name isn't super fitting.

Carefree

Carefree is part of the Phoenix-metropolitan area. Right along with the unique name of the town, it is filled with unique street names as well, such as "Easy Street" and "Tranquil Trail."

Nothing

The name of this town is very fitting, as there is basically nothing left of it. The town was established in 1977 and was abandoned by 2011. It was once lively with a pizza place, convenience store, and gas station.
