A man and woman were arrested after police found them overdosed in a vehicle at a Nashville gas station that had a baby in the back seat prior to the arrival of officers.

Stephen Tant, 41, and Florence Bowden, 32, were both charged with child neglect 8 or less, DUI with a child and drug paraphernalia possession, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office. Tant also received an additional charge for possession or causal exchange of a controlled substance.

Metro Police responded to a call concerning a male and female passed out in a vehicle with a baby in the backseat in the 5000 block of Old Hickory Boulevard, according to a Davidson County Sheriff's Office affidavit obtained by iHeartMedia. An officer reportedly witnessed Nashville Fire Department personnel attempt to revive Tant, who was in the driver's seat, and Bowden, who was in the front passenger's seat.

NARCAN was used and eventually both were revived, according to the affidavit. Police found a glass pipe containing brown residue in its bowl under Tant's leg, as well as a bag containing 5-10 grams of marijuana.

A pushrod was also found in the floorboard at Tant's feet. Neither suspect was able to be interviewed by police prior to being transported to the hospital.

The officer determined that the condition of both suspects was consistent with opioid overdose and was treated as such by medical personnel, according to the affidavit. The witness who called police said the vehicle key was in the ignition before police arrived but the witness removed it, fearing Tant would wake up and flee with the baby inside the vehicle.

The witness then removed the baby from the vehicle while Tant and Bowden were still unconscious. The officer said he issued a search warrant for the suspects' blood and delivered it to Skyline Hospital, where Tant and Bowden were transported.

Tant admitted to taking illegal substances prior to his arrest and explained that he and Bowden had run out of Suboxone and went to get heroin to relieve the pain. He said he used the heroin in the area of Bordeaux before driving several miles to the gas station, where he was found by first responders.

Tant admitted that the baby was in the backseat during the entire incident.

Tant is currently being held in Metro Jail on a $17,500 bond. Bowden is being held on a $15,000 bond.
