CHRISTMAS

For the first time in the Dallas Zoo's 132-year history, guests will be able to drive through the zoo at this year's holiday lights event.

The zoo is opening its back lot for the Dallas Zoo Lights, which is a 1 1/4 mile drive through lighted display.

A newly-constructed pathway will allow guests to see the animal lanterns and ice palace, all while looking at the animals.

The Dallas Zoo drive-through experience will last for 36 nights only, lasting through January 3rd. The event opens at 6:30 p.m. each night.

The zoo will limit the number of cars to about 600 per night, according to Dallas Zoo COO Sean Greene.

Profits from the event will help offset the past few months that the zoo was closed and limits guests due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"For everything that we've been through, the community has been through, this is a real opportunity for us to give hope to do this in a safe way. Who knows? You might see something similar, or a hybrid version of this Zoo Lights experience next year," Green said.

Tickets cost $65 per car for non-members and $50 for members. They can be purchased online.
