City officials in New Braunfels have released police footage that shows a traffic stop in which a black man was pulled over, tased, and handcuffed for a "dirty license plate" after a failed attempt to mediate a complaint with the police department.

The video shows the officer approaching Clarence Crawford's car with his gun drawn. Crawford can be seen asking, "You're not going to shoot me?"

After a dispute, the officer tases Crawford on the leg and handcuffs him.

City officials call the actions of officer Kaleb Meyer "unacceptable."

According to City Manager Robert Camareno, Meyer resigned from the department after the traffic stop.

Former Police Chief Tom Wibert also resigned after the incident.

Mayor Rusty Brockman stated, "We want to make it abundantly clear that the actions of the officer in the video are not acceptable to the city of New Braunfels and not representative of the men and women of the police department of the city of New Braunfels. We are working with our local Martin Luther King Jr. Association, the New Bruanfels Police Officers Association and the city’s newly formed inclusion diversity, equity and awareness forum to have an open dialogue and move forward in a positive way."

Camareno said that the police department is reviewing protocols in procedure to ensure something like this doesn't happen again.
