The number of positive COVID-19 cases are increasing daily in Dallas and Tarrant Counties. In addition, the number of hospitalizations are rising as well.

Leaders in Dallas and Tarrant Counties have issued a "dire warning" ahead of the holidays.

Judge Clay Jenkins and Judge Glen Whitley told NBC DFW that they are concerned about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Jenkins stated, "Please, do what you know you need to do. Avoid those crowds, avoid doing get-togethers. Celebrate in a special way but celebrate them with the people you live with."

Jenkins said that Dallas County could see 2,400 daily cases by the end of the month.

He stated, "It’s very frustrating. We need to listen to the doctors, follow the science, and do what the people -- who have trained their entire adult life to advise us on infectious disease, epidemiology, public health -- are telling us to do. It’s very predictable. Every time we steer away from following the science and we see a spike, UT Southwestern predicted this every single time it’s happened."

The Dallas County Public Health Committee sent a letter to Jenkins with "dramatic steps" to reduce the spread, recommending that they should be taken immediately.

Jenkins said he cannot implement any of them without changes to Governor Greg Abbot's COVID-19 order.

For now, the judges both say that their plan is to educate the public the best they can.
