Lil Wayne was recently charged with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

According to TMZ, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida recently charged Weezy, who was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York back in 2009, with the federal weapons charge, which carries up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The charge stems from a December 2019 incident when federal agents searched Wayne's plane at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport and reportedly found a gold-plated handgun in the "Big Worm" rapper's luggage.

Wayne's attorney, Howard Srebnick, said at the time that his client was "cleared" to leave despite the agents' alleged findings. However, as noted by the outlet, it appears that federal agents now believe "Wayne was wrongfully in possession of a weapon and ammunition."

"There is no allegation that [Wayne] ever fired [the gun found in his luggage], brandished it, used it or threatened to use it," Srebnick told TMZ following Weezy's recent charge. "There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person." He added, "The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm."

Wayne is reportedly scheduled to appear in court next month.
