Zoom Will Get Rid Of 40-Minute Limit On Calls For Thanksgiving

Many families will spending the holidays together virtually this year due to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, Zoom will be making a major change to their platform for Thanksgiving.

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, friends and family have used the video-chatting platform Zoom to stay connected while following social distancing guidelines. The one downside, however, is that the video chat app cuts off calls after 40 minutes. That won't be a problem on Thanksgiving, though, because Zoom will drop the time limit for the day.

"As a thank you to our customers, we will be lifting the 40-minute limit for all meetings globally from midnight ET on Nov. 26 through 6 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 so your family gatherings don't get cut short," Zoom's official Twitter account shared.

Ahead of the holiday season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released guidelines for any possible gatherings. Though friends and family would love to spend Thanksgiving together this year, the CDC recommends "celebrating virtually or with members of your own household" as the best way to control a holiday spike. While disappointing, unlimited Zoom calls will definitely help separated friends and family feel close this Thanksgiving.
