Denver Mayor Michael Hancock called on residents to stay home during a COVID-19 news conference on Friday, November 20.
As Denver moves prepares to move into level red on Colorado's updated COVID-19 dial, Mayor Hancock gave residents another update.
"We are about to enter the hardest phase of the pandemic," said Hancock. "If this virus continues to spread like it is right now, it won't just mean another stay at home order. It will mean more easily preventable loss of life."
Mayor Hancock informed residents of the new level red during a previous news conference with Colorado Governor Jared Polis earlier in the week.
The new "severe risk" level mostly impacts restaurants, requiring them to suspend indoor dining, reduce their capacity, and push up last call for outdoor dining to 8:00 P.M.
"We know that indoor settings are more risky, although outdoor settings spread still can occur," said Executive Director of Denver Public Health and Environment Bob McDonald. "So remember for the Denver face covering order, if you are indoors by yourself, you don't need to wear one."
McDonald added "...if you are outdoors with anyone else outside of your household, we need you to wear those face coverings. That is a proven strategy."
Denver's move to level red restrictions will go into effect on Friday, November 20 at 5:00 P.M. and remain until December 18.
