Wisconsin Recount: Trump Campaign Seeks To Toss Thousands Of Ballots

The Donald Trump campaign wants to toss out thousands of ballots in Wisconsin as the recount is underway in two of the state’s counties.

According to the campaign, the Dane County Board of Canvassers denied the ballots twice. The campaign also intends to challenge votes in Milwaukee County, the Associated Press reported Friday (November 20).

“Our democracy depends on fair and impartial elections that fully adhere to the Constitution and state statute," the campaign said in a statement. "By staging a last minute attempt to change the rules, and by providing unlawful advice before then, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has repeatedly failed to follow the law. They have disenfranchised voters and undermined the integrity of this election. We continue to be confident that when all of the legal ballots are counted and illegal ballots are not counted, President Trump will be proven the winner.”

Democratic candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden won Wisconsin by more than 20,000 votes, including both of the Democratic counties in which the Trump campaign paid to recount the votes, according to the AP. Trump won 58 of the 70 other counties in the state, where his campaign did not opt to request a recount of the votes.

Days after Biden won Wisconsin, sources called the race in his favor nationally.

Had Trump requested a statewide recount, it would’ve cost his campaign about $7.9 million. That figure is about four times the cost of the recount in the 2016 election because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results,” Trump Campaign Manager Bill Stepien previously said. “The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.”
