'Tis the season to give, and Arizona is definitely not helping to showcase that, according to Wallethub.

According to the World Giving Index, the United States is the most generous country, and has been for the last ten years.

Wallethub recently released a list of the most charitable states in the nation and Arizona came in the very last spot.

Arizona ranked 49th in percentage of donated items, 46th in percentage of population that donated time, 48th in population collecting/distributing food, and 48th in fewest charities per capita.

The most charitable state was Utah, ranking number one in five different categories.

Rounding out the top five spots were Minnesota in second, Maryland in third, Oregon in fourth, and Ohio in fifth.

New Mexico came in at number 49, and Louisiana came in at number 48.

To determine the list, Wallethub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions, "volunteering and service" and "charitable giving."

Those dimensions were then evaluated using 19 key metrics, including volunteer rate, share of population that does favors for neighbors, share of income donated, public charities per capita, and share of sheltered homeless.
