After advising residents to avoid travel this week, it's reported that Denver Mayor Michael Hancock boarded a flight to Houston ahead of Thanksgiving.

Before his flight, Hancock tweeted out a Thanksgiving infographic on how to stay safe for the holiday with the caption "Pass the potatoes, not COVID."

According to 9NEWS, a statement from the mayor's spokesperson says "As he has shared, the Mayor is not hosting his traditional large family dinner this year, but instead traveling alone to join his wife and daughter where the three of them will celebrate Thanksgiving at her residence instead of having them travel back to Denver."

The past few weeks in Denver have been full of COVID-19 updates and public health warnings from both Mayor Hancock and Governor Jared Polis.

Last week, Mayor Hancock announced that the city of Denver and surrounding counties would be transitioning to a new severe risk level, level red.

On Friday, November 20 at 5:00 P.M. counties switched over to level red meaning tighter restrictions for businesses and encouraging residents to stay home for the upcoming holiday.

During these updates, Mayor Hancock advised people to avoid traveling outside of Denver for Thanksgiving.

In a news conference on Tuesday, November 24, Governor Polis informed the public that 1 in 41 Coloradans is currently contagious with the Coronavirus.
