Safety is one of the main reasons that people move in and out of certain cities.
After determining where Americans can feel the most secure, Wallethub added many cities in Arizona to the list of "2020's Safest Cities in America."
The site compared 180 cities to determine the list, and Gilbert placed in one of the top spots.
Gilbert was number 10 on the list, placing the highest out of any other Arizona city.
Gilbert also placed fifth overall for fewest assaults per capita.
These Arizona cities also made an appearance on the list:
- Chandler- number 17
- Scottsdale- number 20
- Peoria- number 25
- Mesa- number 31
- Tempe- number 40
- Glendale- number 57
- Phoenix- number 104
- Tucson- number 146
According to the list, the safest city in America is Columbia, Maryland. South Burlington, Vermont came in second and Plano, Texas came in third.
Nashua, New Hampshire and Lewiston, Maine rounded out the top five.
To determine the list, Wallethub compared 180 cities across three key dimensions: home and community safety, natural-disaster risk, and financial safety.
Those three dimensions were then evaluated using 42 relevant metrics, including average number of COVID-19 cases within the last seven days, number of mass shootings, share of sheltered homeless, earthquake risk level, tornado risk level, foreclosure rate, job security, and share of households with emergency savings.
