This City Is The 'Miami Of The Midwest,' According To Jason Isbell

Always an avid Twitter user, country artist Jason Isbell drew attention to the city he considers “the Miami of the Midwest.”

The “WILD” town Isbell shouted out is Madison, Wisconsin.

“I’ll tell you right now I love Wisconsin,” Isbell tweeted on Saturday (November 28). “Madison is the Miami of the Midwest that town is WILD.”

He also shared one story from the "WILD" Midwestern Miami:

"Once I had to hold a member of my band by his belt as he hung out the side of our van and vomited all over that magical farmers market on a Saturday morning," Isbell recalled. "We tried our best to avoid it. Thankfully the town is forgiving."

How did that come up?

Isbell started by retweeting a New York Post story that day, reporting that “President (Donald) Trump paid $3M in Wisconsin recount only for (Democratic candidate Joe) Biden to gain 132 votes.”

Isbell commented: “Damn. Do you know how much fun he could’ve had in the Dells with three million dollars? I mean that’s basically Tommy Bartlett money.”

The Tommy Bartlett Show, which Bartlett launched in 1952, canceled its season in Wisconsin Dells this summer because of COVID-19 concerns and ordered shutdowns, officials of the attraction announced in May.

“This is a very difficult decision for us to make, but having a little more than a 100- day window in which to host our Shows, leaves us with limited options to proceed,” President and Co-Owner Tom Diehl said in a press release at that time. “We will do what we can to stay afloat during this trying time in hopes that a year from now our valued customers will return for a nostalgic presentation of live entertainment on Lake Delton.”

When one Twitter user told Isbell that "the Tommy Bartlett Water Show closed permanently this fall due to business losses," Isbell replied, "Jesus Christ I give up."

That response was one of many.

Naturally, Isbell's Wisconsin-inspired tweet generated thousands of reactions, hundreds of retweets and replies.

That includes one from author and podcaster Steven Hyden — a.k.a. the “Wisconsin King,” according to The Bozho — who said “Dropping a Tommy Bartlett reference makes you and honorary Wisconsinite.”

Isbell apparently took that title in stride.

After all, he loves the "WILD" town that is "the Miami of the Midwest."
