The Fort Worth City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to extend the city's mask mandate into March 2, 2021.
This comes a week after Tarrant County extended its COVID-19 disaster declaration, including its mask mandate, until the end of February.
County Judge Glen Whitley reminded people on Tuesday that the mandate also applies to businesses, NBC DFW reported. Whitley first ordered a county-wide mask mandate in June.
"It doesn’t pertain to us individuals who are out and about. It only pertains to businesses and their owners," Whitley said. "I want to stay focused on Tarrant County. I want to focused on those folks who I respect and trust and who know really don’t to have a dollar in the game. I want to talk to the CEOs. I want to talk with the cities."
COVID-19 cases are rising in DFW and are expected to continue because of the Thanksgiving holiday. On the Tarrant County COVID-19 dashboard, the community spread level is "substantial."
As of Tuesday, there have been a total of 102,051 coronavirus cases and 849 deaths.
