The rare opportunity to kayak along the San Antonio River Walk has now been extended past the new year.

The announcement came from the City of San Antonio on Wednesday KSAT reports. The city announced that the program will be offered on weekends through January 31st.

Tickets can now be purchased for the self-guides tours that will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Reservations are requires, and the excursions cost $50 for two hours. If guests choose to bring their own kayak, paddle, and life jacket, a reservation is still required, which costs $15.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in a news release, "Kayaking on the River Walk is a unique experience that gives participants the opportunity to experience the beauty of the River Walk from the river itself. I had the opportunity to kayak the River Walk, and I’m excited that we’re extending this popular program through the winter months so that more residents and visitors can enjoy this socially distant outdoor activity."

This rare opportunity to kayak the River Walk began in October when the city, the River Walk Association, and Go Rio Cruises partnered to bring the service to the area.

According to city officials, at least 1,800 have kayaked the River Walk so far.
