Everything Left Inside Metrocenter Mall Is Up For Auction

it's the final sale for everything that was left behind in the Metrocenter Mall.

EJ's Auction and Appraisal is selling off Cinnabon signs, a 6-foot-tall nutcracker, rolling kiosks and everything in between. Currently, it's selling 150 holiday decorations - like Santa's sofa - and other odds and ends as part of the online Metrocenter Mall liquidation auction.

"We're going to be selling this mall off in sections," said Garrett Hoyer of EJ's Auction and Appraisal told Arizona Family.

Each Thursday for the next five to six weeks, the old mall will be open for in-person public viewing for the items that are going up for auction on the following Friday. The auction is completely online however.

Hoyer said that the first preview drew people who wanted to buy things for nostalgia or because they needed items for their business.

"Metrocenter is such an iconic mall. Everybody knows about it. So everybody wants to come out and take a look," Hoyer said.

Eventually the Metrocenter signs outside of the mall will go up for auction, ABC15 reported.

The mall closed in June after 47 years in business. The popularity of malls have been steadily declining, but COVID-19 is what did Metrocenter in.

"We hope to see Metrocenter redeveloped and revitalized in the near future so it can once again be the pride of the surrounding community," wrote Kim Ramirez, the mall's general manager, in a letter that announced the closure.
