Joe Walsh so aspires to be an honest rock 'n' roll songwriter that he bought a Maserati out of 'guilt' for name-dropping the iconic car brand in his 1978 solo hit, "Life's Been Good."
If that's not admirable, what is?
Walsh's mention of the sports car in the song's second verse is one of its more memorable, humorous stanzas: "My Maserati does 185 / I lost my license, now I don't drive / I have a limo, ride in the back / I lock the doors in case I'm attacked."
Now 42 years after the song was released, Walsh admits to Rolling Stone that he had been living a lie in those lyrics for years.
"I never had a Maserati. I finally got one, because everyone was making me feel really guilty," Walsh said. "The look of sadness on their face ... so I went and got a Maserati. I don't know if it does 185. I chickened out at 140."
Walsh also cops to trashing hotel rooms in "Life's Been Good." He added to Rolling Stone that the claim is 100 percent true, but he was far from the most destructive; he was just trying to keep up.
"Hanging out with Keith moon was one of the highlights of my life," Walsh explained. "It was absolutely terrifying at the time. Now, it's funny."
Walsh will be appearing at the upcoming virtual VetsAid charity concert, live-streaming on December 12 to raise money for veterans services.
