Mass. Medical Society Leader: 'All' Of State Should Be Aware Of COVID Spike

December 4, 2020

The president of the Massachusetts Medical Society is warning residents to be aware of spiking COVID-19 cases.

Dr. David Rosman tweeted "all of [Massachusetts] should be talking about" the state's coronavirus numbers, which included 6,477 new cases and 49 deaths on Thursday, which set a new single-day record since the pandemic began, Boston.com reports.

"All of #MA should be talking about todays #COVID19 number 6477," Dr. Rosman wrote. "It’s not a number... is thousands of lives. It’s not typical... it’s 40% more than yesterday and nearly double of any other day.... one month ago? 923... this is SEVEN TIMES WORSE. #StayHome"

The Massachusetts Health Department reports the new cases included 680 that were tested before December 1 and were delayed from being included in previous updates due to a technical issue.

“It’s 40% more than yesterday and nearly double of any other day,” Dr. Rosman said.

Rosman reiterated that the new totals were far greater than last month, when the state averaged around 900 daily confirmed cases.

“This is SEVEN TIMES WORSE,” Rosman wrote.

Dr. Rosman advised Massachusetts residents to stay home if possible and wear a mask outside while following social distancing protocols in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

Earlier this week, Gov. Charlie Barker said he had no plans for any additional closures or restrictions in Massachusetts as the state's daily positive COVID-19 test rate continues to show signs of slowing down.
