Las Vegas has long held its “Sin City” reputation, but some Ohio cities aren’t that innocent either.
WalletHub, a personal finance site, released a study Monday (December 7) ranking the most sinful cities in America. The study compared more than 180 cities, accounting for 37 “key indicators of evil deeds.”
“From beer-loving Milwaukee to hedonistic New Orleans, the U.S. is filled with people behaving illicitly,” WalletHub’s study reads. “No place is innocent. We all have demons.”
Cleveland was close to cracking its way into the top 10, coming in at the No. 11 most sinful city in America.
Here are the Ohio cities that are some of the most sinful in the U.S.:
- No. 11: Cleveland, OH
- No. 34: Cincinnati, OH
- No. 50: Columbus, OH
- No. 79: Akron, OH
- No. 82: Toledo, OH
In a six-way tie for No. 1 in the study’s “anger and hate” category, Cleveland was also found to have the most violent crimes per capita.
Other cities on that list include:
- Detroit, MI
- Memphis, TN
- Baltimore, MD
- Cleveland, OH
- St. Louis, MO
- Birmingham, AL
Experts also considered the extent to which sinful behavior is innate versus learned, what makes some cities more sinful than others, strategies to combat addiction and domestic violence, and even how to avoid temptations during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, among other questions, according to WalletHub.
