A community came together to make a sweet reunion happen for a homeless man in South Florida.
It started when a five-year-old Chihuahua mix was stolen from its leash, according to NBC Miami. It happened around 8 a.m. last Wednesday (December 2) near Northwest 67th Avenue near the Palmetto, according to Pedro, the dog's owner.
"It's like when someone loses their child," Pedro said, who is from Miami Lakes. "My life was bad and this has not been the first time they have tried taking him from me." When the community heard about what happened, they flooded social media. Then they got to work to recover the pet.
Come Saturday night (December 5), Pedro said the missing dog was dropped off to him by an unknown person. The figure immediately ran away after returning the pet, the owner added.
Pedro told reporters he feels whole once again, and some members of the community couldn't be happier. "I'm super happy. He's been devastated without the dog, and he takes really good care of it - better than himself," resident Lourdes Leyva-Hernández said.
The Miami Lakes man lives on Northwest 67th Avenue without a home, but makes sure Sky Dim gets all his vaccinations, NBC Miami wrote. "Members of the community say they are now focused on helping both find a safe home to live in," they added.
