A recent Wallethub study compared more than 400 cities in the United States of varying sizes to determine the best college towns and cities in the nation.
There were several Texas cities that made the cut.
Austin placed second overall best college town in America and first overall for all of the largest college cities.
Here are all of the Texas cities that placed in the top 100:
- Austin- 2
- College Station- 12
- McKinney- 26
- Plano-31
- Killeen- 61
- Pearland- 84
- Denton- 91
While Laredo did not place in the top 100 (it came in at number 306), the city placed high in a couple of categories. Laredo was second overall for lowest cost of higher education and fourth overall for lowest cost of living for young people.
To determine the list, Wallethub compared 415 cities across three key dimensions: wallet friendliness, social environment, and academic and economic opportunities.
Each of the three key dimensions were then evaluated using 30 relevant metrics including housing costs, student loan debt per person, students per capita, number of attractions, entrepreneurial activity, and earning potential for college graduates.
