The NC State men's basketball team is pausing all team-related activities due to positive COVID-19 cases and to allow contact tracing, the team announced on Wednesday (December 9).
"This was a difficult, but ultimately necessary decision for our program," head coach Kevin Keatts said in a statement. "The health and safety of our student-athletes and staff will always come first. After consulting with our medical team, we decided the appropriate measure was the pause all team activities effective immediately."
NC State canceled a game against Connecticut last weekend, and postponed its matchup against Michigan, after two members of the Wolfpack's travel party tested positive for the virus. According to WRAL, the travel party includes players, staff, and administrative support, but it is unclear who tested positive.
"The health and safety of our student-athletes and staff remains our unwavering priority," said Boo Corrigan, Director of Athletics at NC State. "We will continue to work with all appropriate parties and adhere to ACC, campus and local protocols to make the most responsible decisions moving forward."
NC State originally had a home game schedule December 12 agains FAU, but it will not be played. The team has not determined how the pause will affect future games after that date.
