The coronavirus has closed another annual event.
Arizona residents will have to wait another year to head back in time. The Arizona Renaissance Festival won't be happening in 2021.
Festival organizers said in a statement that they had government permission to open in February under strict COVID-19 measures.
However, due to COVID-19 conditions worsening, festival organizers did not feel safe in opening.
The statement said, "We are saddened this decision may result in further hardship for our values renaissance community of artists and disappoint our patrons. Many encourage us to be open, our festival community truly wants to get back to work. We earned governmental approval to open with an extensive COVID-19 safety plan. However, negative Covid conditions that have dramatically increased over recent days, the worst since the beginning of the pandemic, and are forecast to worsen over the next weeks."
The Festival hopes to return in 2022 with a full experience.
The statement reads, "Wishing you health and sanity during these uncharted times."
