The Denver Center for Performing Arts (DCPA) has decided to postpone or cancel all Broadway and other theatrical shows through July 2021.

As of Wednesday, December 9, 22 Broadway and cabaret shows have either been postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Many postponed shows have pending dates as uncertainty looms over the DCPA's programming schedule.

"We are making every effort to reschedule rather than cancel productions pending tour schedules, venue availability, and health and safety guidelines," the DCPA writes on their FAQ page.

The center is encouraging people to retain their tickets as they are currently planning to offer all of their 2020/21 shows in their upcoming season.

Since the pandemic kicked into full gear in March, the DCPA has been forced to cancel or postpone 34 shows, two fundraisers, hundreds of classes, and several rental events.

The cancelations have resulted in a multi-million dollar financial loss for the DCPA.

Despite all of the cancelations and postponing, the DPCA has managed to organize several virtual events for residents who want to experience live theatre from home.

The DCPA has a Broadway Reunion Concert, a TANTALUS: Behind the Mask watch party, The Hip Hop Nutcracker, and Camp Christmas are all scheduled for the month of December.

Tickets and information about the virtual shows are available on their website.

DCPA officials hope they will be able to reopen by August.
