A Nevada sex worker is suing Gov. Steve Sisolak since legal brothels have been closed since March, which she calls "blatant discrimination."
“It would be understandable if the governor kept all close-contact businesses closed. But the fact that massage parlors, estheticians, salons, escort services and other non-essential businesses have been allowed to reopen lead me to believe that the governor’s decision to keep brothels closed is just blatant discrimination against Nevada’s legal sex workers,” Alice Little said in a statement.
Little has been out of work since the industry has been shut down. She says that she and coworkers have been forced to live off of their savings.
The lawsuit was originally filed in October, and on November 19, a court ordered the Nevada attorney general to respond to Little's lawsuit in 30 days, Yahoo Life reported.
Sisolak's office hasn't responded to the lawsuit, but in October, the governor said, "Certainly we’re going to have to look at getting kids back into schools before we look at getting folks back into brothels. We’ll be addressing it some time, certainly, but it’s not in the immediate future."
Little told KSNV that if Sisolak isn't going reopen brothels, "then he needs to close down all close contact industries. Not just mine."
Now, Little is using GoFundMe to raise money for her legal battle. As of Thursday morning, she's raised over $8,500.
