A man was arrested on the tarmac of the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas after he managed to climb onto the wing of an airplane.

Las Vegas Metro Police arrested Alejandro Carlson, 41, on Saturday afternoon on suspicion of trespassing and disregard for the safety of a person or property. Authorities say Carlson got over a fence along the perimeter of the airport and made his way toward an Alaska Airlines plane that was bound for Portland, Oregon.

The Alaska pilot was preparing the plane for take off noticed a man near the plane and radioed the control tower, according to a statement from the airline.

"It was definitely one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen in my life," passenger Erin Evans told ABC News.

She and other passengers aboard the plane recorded Carlson as he walked on the plane's wing.

Social media videos don't show how Carlson got onto the wing, but Evans said it was about 45 minutes before authorities used the plane's emergency exit to climb on the wing to apprehend the man.

Video shows Carlson taking off his shoes and trying to climb on to the wing's tip as authorities moved closer to him. Carlson was taken into custody after losing his footing and falling off the plane.

Police told the media that Carlson was impaired during the incident.

No passengers were harmed and the plane was returned to the gate for an inspection, CBS reported.
