Sacramento Neighborhood Starts Porch Pirate Patrol

Close to two million packages are stolen from porches every day across America.
With the pandemic forcing people to rely on online shopping, these numbers are likely increasing.
On top of that, Sacramento also happens to be one of the ten worst metro cities for package theft in 2020, according to a Safewise study.
These depressing statistics are why some Sacramento residents are taking matters into their own hands.
Isaac Fischer has started an informal porch pirate patrol in his neighborhood.
He shared the idea with neighbors on the Nextdoor app.
If you see a delivery truck arrive in the neighborhood, you simply step outside and make your presence known to any possible thieves in the area.
"That could be a deterrent," Fischer told CBS13. "You know, people see people coming out on their porch or on their street and they'll probably move on."
The idea was warmly received on the app, receiving dozens of thumbs up.
"It would only take a few minutes since a lot of us are working from home, including me," said Fischer. "It's something that we could do for our neighbors."
With the holidays in full swing, Fischer thought this would be a good opportunity to start the patrol.
"This is the prime time. That's one of the reasons I thought of it because this is going to be one of the worst times," he said. "I think it would be so disappointing to have your Christmas presents stolen."
