Lizzo Faces Backlash For Promoting 'Dangerous' Juice Cleanse

Some of Lizzo’s fans are feeling “betrayed” by the singer trying an unpopular detox program to better her health and wellness.
The “Truth Hurt” star's followers accused her of promoting “diet culture” after Lizzo detailed her 10-day detox journey. Taking to TikTok, she explained that she’d often feel “afraid and ashamed” to talk about her experience with the juicing program “because I feel like as a big girl, people expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss, and that is not the case.”
After a stressful November filled with drinking and eating foods that “f—ked my stomach up,” Lizzo said she’s happy with the results she’s noticed after doing the smoothie detox, concluding that “every big girl should do whatever the f—k they want with their bodies.”

Responses from fans, however, were mixed.
Some followers were disappointed that Lizzo would advocate for juicing diets — citing its potential harm — whereas others defended the “Good As Hell” star against those shaming her for doing what she felt was best for her body.
One user tweeted, “#Lizzo is totally welcome to do whatever she wants with her body. If she wants to lose weight good for her, but doing it in dangerous ways that have been shown to cause eating disorders isn't the way to do it. Detox diet fads are extremely unhealthy and usually cause rebound gain.”
Another user added in Lizzo's defense: “So, let y'all tell it @lizzo can't be fat, so she changes her diet. Now, she can't be skinny! Damn, can she just be HAPPY?! However SHE defines it. #yallareannoying.”

The industry is so violent towards fat women. Of course she was going to submit to toxic diet culture. It was only a matter of time.
