Employees at a Taco Bell in Sacramento received unexpected tips on December 14.

While the date might not have meant anything to them, for Shan Horan the date has been a sobering reminder of a terrifying experience that happened when he was in his teens.

"Twenty years ago I actually got robbed at gunpoint while closing shop at Taco. So, one of the scariest points of my life," Horan told CBS13.

The robbery took place at a Taco Bell in Flagstaff, Arizona and Horan refer to December 14 as his "life day."

"I wanted to do something kind of interesting 20 years later and actually get Taco Bell," said Horan. "Sporadically, I ended up paying every employee $100 apiece."

Horan's generosity came as a shock to the unsuspecting employees at the Greenhaven Plaza Taco Bell in Sacramento.

"It kind of came out of nowhere," one employee Jordin Hines said to CBS13.

According to Hines, the money will be put to great use.

"A couple of employees have kids and stuff that they need to take care of. And I've been trying to save up and fix my car," Hines said. "He definitely has a good heart."

Horan, who now works for Republic Records, says he understands how hard the employees work and is glad he could help out.

"Hopefully, I spread some cheer and gave them a little bit extra for gifts for their family."
