When the "most wonderful time of the year" comes around, many people will snuggle up and enjoy great holiday-themed movies. These flicks either make you feel good or have a fantastic plot to take you away from the turbulent year of 2020. Everyone has preferences, but what do the various residents of the United States favor around this time?
After analyzing Google Trends and checking IMDb's top 50 most popular movies, Comparitech put together a list of each state's favorite festive film. Overall, they found a mix of recent releases and holiday classics in the top slots.
What's the most talked about Christmas movie in Washington? According to the study, that film is the classic Die Hard! Having an IMDb score of 8.2, residents of the Evergreen State were not alone with this sentiment. The 1988 flick was also the movie of choice in Nebraska and Alaska.
There's an ongoing debate about whether the movie, which stars Bruce Willis, is a Christmas movie or not. You can see it firsthand on Twitter:

Recurring movies on the list include How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Almost Christmas (2016), and The Polar Express (2004). The "older films also tend to have higher IMDb ratings, too. It’s a Wonderful Life is the top-scorer with 8.6, followed by Die Hard with 8.2. Meanwhile, the modern ones mentioned above, score middle-of-the-range 5s and 6s," according to Rebecca Moody, data journalist and writer of the article.
