Cam Newton experienced his first snow day as a member of the New England Patriots on Thursday and apparently loved it.
“Oh my goodness, I found myself looking out the window last night and it almost felt like a kid at Christmas looking for Santa,” Newton told reporters on Thursday via CBS Boston. “I am looking out like, ‘Oh my God. Look at all this snow.'"
Newton, who is in his first season with the Patriots, grew up in Atlanta and spent his collegiate years at the University of Florida, Blinn College in Benham, Texas, and Auburn University, before being drafted No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2011, where he played his first nine NFL seasons.
Unsurprisingly, the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP was entranced by the record-setting snowstorm that hit the northeast overnight and into Thursday (December 17) morning.
“I was mesmerized by the guys who were trying to clean up the snow,” Newton said. “I don’t even know the machines names, but shout out to those guys who salt the roads and clean the roads; a job that doesn’t get noticed but is extremely needed.”
The Patriots practiced indoors on Thursday, although the team shared photos of several players walking through a snowy field to get to the practice facilities.

Newton's admiration for the New England snow comes days after his predecessor, Tom Brady, revealed his preference for the South Florida December weather.
Brady, who spent his entire 20-year career with the Patriots before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this year, was reportedly quoted by Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud as saying, "You won't catch me dead living in the Northeast anymore" on December 10.
