Parts of San Antonio's Market Square are closing for three months next year and it isn't because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The closures will begin January 2nd for improvements and mole abatement, reports My SA.

The only section of the market that will be affected by the closure is the Farmers Market Plaza. This is the closest section to Interstate 35.

The shops and restaurants in the rest of Market Square will remain open.

Rent abatement will be offered to the 50 shops that are housed in the closed building. They will also be given the opportunity for a "Pop Up Mercado."

The mold issue in that section of the market was found during a standard environmental protocol check, which was completed as part of bong improvement projects from 2017.

The city stated, "The mold poses no health risks, as it is not airborne. Initial remediation was completed last summer."

The updates and mold removal is expected to take only a few months, and that portion of the market is expected to reopen in the spring.
