It's been more than two years since Good Charlotte released their seventh studio album Generation Rx, and 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the band's self-titled album, so as the year wound down they knew they had to make something for fans. Instead of announcing a reissue or hosting a live stream, the pop punk icons decided to gift fans with a pensive new single. "Last December" is a bittersweet song that reflects on life, death, and everything in between.
“2020 being the 20th anniversary of our self titled debut album, really made us feel like we wanted to release something for those fans who’ve gone on this journey with us,” guitarist/vocalist Benji Madden said in a statement.“The holidays can be a rough time of year. Thinking of the ones we’ve lost and longing for moments that have passed us by, is definitely a part of the joy and melancholy. This song for us speaks to both sides of those holiday feelings and we hope it brings some solace to anyone who needs it.”
The track is accompanied by an equally thoughtful video that shows the toll COVID-19 has had on the band's home of Los Angeles. Listen to "Last December" below.
