Just before packing up and leaving Omaha for North Dakota, the Gall family got an unexpected surprise.

Adam Gall serves in the U.S. Air Force and got a new assignment at the Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, which will mark the first time his young sons — Alexander and Abraham — have to move.

So, it was the last thing the family needed when their dog, JoJo, a 13-year-old Australian Shepard, fled the backyard on December 13.

“I didn’t know how well he was going to survive,” Gall explained to the Kearney Hub. “He proved himself a little tougher than I give him credit.”

The frantic family drove the neighborhood streets for hours searching for JoJo, even turning to the Nextdoor app, the Nebraska Humane Society and other resources to help find their missing dog. Search efforts continued the following day.

“The fact that we would have to leave one of our dogs at home wasn’t going over well with the boys, just like it wasn’t going over well with me,” Gall told the Hub. But when two women were able to catch JoJo, the Galls reunited with their exhausted and hungry dog. “I can’t express my gratitude. I can’t express how happy we are.”
