An Amazon delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight on Monday, Murfreesboro Police confirmed. Her van full of packages was also stolen. Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect.
Around 1:18 p.m. on December 21, the female driver was delivering a package near Hawkins Avenue and Minor Street when police said she was approached by two armed men. Dressed all in black and wearing masks that covered their faces, the suspects pointed a firearm at the driver before stealing her delivery van. The driver was not injured during the carjacking.
The van was found a short time later abandoned on Fourth Avenue. Police believe the suspects loaded 73 packages into a large black SUV with tinted windows before fleeing the van. Five packages were left behind.
Murfreesboro Police ask that anyone with information about the incident or the suspects responsible contact the Criminal Investigations Division Detective Julia Cox at 629-201-5514 or email 0834@murfreesborotn.gov.
The pandemic has affected retail shopping and influenced many people to order holiday gifts online this year. This increased delivery could be one reason why delivery drivers across the country have also been carjacked this holiday season. Just in Cleveland, Ohio, five drivers have been robbed in the last few weeks.
