A pilot captured video proof of the elusive "jetpack man" who has been spotted flying around Los Angeles several times over the past few months. The footage was recorded by a Sling Pilot Academy Flight Instructor south of Los Angeles near Palos Verdes at around 3,000 feet.
The video, which was posted on Instagram by the flight academy, shows what appears to be a man soaring through the clouds on what seems to be a jetpack.
"The video appears to show a jet pack, but it could also be a drone or some other object. If it is a 'guy in a jet pack' then it remains to be seen whether it is a legal test flight (jet packs are real - there is a manufacturer near Los Angeles) or related to the jet pack sightings near LAX recently that caused disruptions to air traffic," Sling Pilot Academy wrote.
While this is the third time a pilot has reported seeing a man in a jetpack, it is the first time they managed to capture him on camera. The first incident happened at the end of August when an American Airlines pilot reported seeing the man flying about 300 yards off his wing as he prepared to land at Los Angles International Airport.
On October 14, pilots noticed the jetpack man cruising at an altitude of 6,000 feet.
The FBI is investigating the incidents along with the FAA and local law enforcement.
