It took a snowbank to stop a driver who fled an attempted traffic stop in Madison.

Officers tried to stop a driver operating a vehicle without a license plate around Raymond Road and Rae Lane at about 10:15 a.m. on Monday morning (December 28).

“Shortly after the stop, the car fled from officers,” the Madison Police Department’s incident report states.

The driver, 22, was not named in the report and has not immediately been charged in connection with the incident.

Hours later, just before 12:30 p.m., officers pulled over the same car at Gammon Lane and Odana Road, and again, the driver sped away.

“Again, the car sped off after initially stopping for police, but this time it jumped a nearby curb, hit a tree, and flipped into a snowbank,” the report states. “The driver (exited) the vehicle and fled on foot from officers. Officers were able to take the 22-year-old man into custody and he was taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries and will be tentatively charged with eluding.”

Separately, the City of Madison and the Madison Police Department warned the public of winter weather on the way, which could lead to hazardous conditions on the roads.
